Designing the Sustainable Web
Build faster, lighter, lower-carbon digital experiences that users actually love.
Digital marketing has an invisible climate cost
Every webpage, animation, tracking script, autoplay video, analytics platform, and third-party integration consumes energy.
At the same time, businesses are under pressure to improve sustainability, user experience, privacy, and conversion rates. Yet most businesses and developers have never been taught how digital systems consume energy - or how to design differently.
Learn practical low-carbon web and marketing techniques
In this hands-on masterclass, hosted during London Climate Action Week, you will learn how digital emissions are created and how to reduce them through smarter design, development, hosting, and measurement decisions.
You’ll build and test a live webpage from scratch, measuring how different elements affect:
- Performance
- Energy use
- Accessibility
- User experience
- Carbon footprint
The workshop also explores practical alternatives to heavy analytics stacks, privacy-invasive tracking, carbon-intensive hosting — and how to apply these principles to social media.
Importantly, this is not a “minimalist at all costs” workshop. The goal is to help participants create digital experiences that are elegant, modern, accessible, performant, and commercially effective — without unnecessary digital waste.
